Lulu Organics is one of those brands where the whole line of various products (I tried the hair powder, hair oil, lip balm and deoderant) is a knockout winner. The smells are earthy, but beautiful, chic and sophisticated, and they work like magic. As a stylist, I believe that it's not healthy to wash your hair everyday. We want to preserve the hair of these natural oils and having a powder and healthy oils/serums on hand can become part of your daily routine for excellent hair care. The oils can build up shine, help with a dry/itchy scalp and eradicate split ends. Befriend your oils but use high quality products like Lulu's to really get your shine and healthy hair game on point.
+ This vetiver and black pepper hair powder is amazing and can cover up any gnarly smells. It can really help ease any extra grease or oil that may be accumulating onyour head. This formula has horsetail in it, which is very good for any itchiness, burns, or rashes. They also have a small travel size, which I highly recommend getting for vacations or just a day out, so you don't have to wash your hair and can preserve any styling.
+ The lavender and clary sage hair oil is next level. Made with organic argan and olive oil infused with horestail, rosemary and nettle, it's great for hair health and for that extra shine we all want. It keeps your hair shiny for hours, and can calm any frizz you might have. It's very revitalizing for any damaged or weak hair. It's a classic product you will become a stample and smells better than many of the other natural hair oils I have tried.
+ The Ruby Mint Lip Balm is so clean and hydrating. It's petroleum and BPA free and full of nourishing ingredients. It also has a natural tint to it, without any of the crazy chemicals that you wouldn't want on your lips.
The Lavender and Clary Sage Cream Deoderant is heavenly. We all want our underarms to smell good and for our deoderants to last a long time, and this one does the job. It's very nourishing to this sometimes neglected part of our body, and it's so easy to cary around if you ever need to reapply. It's so important to have a toxic-free deoderant because many of our lymph nodes/glands are under our arms and we want to be gentle with what it comes into contact with. I would recommend this herbal and toxic-free product to anyone wanting to make the clean switch.
Q&A with Linda 'Lulu' Aldredge of Lulu Organics
Q: What is the name of your brand and how did you come up with it?
A: Lulu Organics! Lulu is my childhood nickname so I simply used that plus the word 'Organics'.
Q: What inspired you to start your own line?
A: I was working in the fashion and beauty industry at the time and I was pretty unfulfilled and desperately seeking products that were gentle on my skin because I had just been diagnosed with rosacea. I had been raised in a very clean and hippie household so I just started playing with making my own products and the rest is history.
Q: What does natural mean to you?
A: Sadly natural has come to mean nothing to me because it means nothing in the organic beauty industry. It has been bastardized and cooped by big corporations to give the illusion of making a decision that is healthy for their customers and they aren't. Organic, however, means that a company is attempting to choose clean ingredients when making their products. Ingredients that ultimately have avoided pesticides. And personally, it means that the company is making sound decisions when picking to use emulsifiers and preservatives. Though most large organic beauty companies still use those conventional ingredients.
Q: What are your core values?
A: Stay small, keep our products clean, be kind to the earth and keep our impact on it as small as possible, don't use ingredients that we can't eat.
Q: Why do you use the ingredients that you do & how did you find them?
A: They come from all over the world. I try and source them from companies who have ethical company policies set in place.
Q: What changes would you like to see in the beauty industry?
A: I would love to see the whole 'smoke and mirrors' aspect change. So many companies put forth an image that is completely falsified for the sake of selling products. Though I do love the new wave of small beauty businesses that have emerged since I started. There are so many choices now!
Q: What other brands do you love?
A: Fat and the Moon, Captain Blankenship, MCMC Fragrances, Juice Beauty, Andalou Naturals, Davines. Funny enough my beauty routine is super minimal! I use very little.
Q: What’s your biggest dream for your brand?
A: To grow in a way where we don't have to compromise our ideals. To encourage people to make sound decisions for themselves and our planet. To embrace beauty as an inside out lifestyle vs. an outside in lifestyle.
